Lucknow Chikankari is done on various materials like Cotton, Silk, Chiffon/ Georgette etc. and the embroidery thread is tradtionally White, though other coloured threads are often used these days. Chikankari cannot be done well on thick cloth/ fabric and hence, all items with Chikankari make use of thinner (breathable) fabric varieties.

- The Top piece is ~2.4m long; Bottom piece Dupatta are each ~2.1m long. Width of all 3 pieces is ~1.1m. The Top & Bottom pieces are of Pure & Fine 100% Cotton Voile, while the Dupatta is of Pure Chiffon. Cotton Voile is a lightweight plain woven fabric which can be made from Pure or Hybrid Cotton. The fabric is soft, thin & fairly translucent and highly suitable for Embroidery. Chiffon is a very light, elegant & translucent fabric, composed of a blend of natural & other fibres and woven from crepe tightly twisted yarns. It is ideal for Dupatta.
- Extensive Chikan embroidery is present on the Top & Bottom pieces. The major embroidery work is on the Top piece, in the form of "Full Front Chikankari" (floral designs along the entire front length). Dupatta is plain with a simple embroidered border and matches the Top & Bottom color (it may be darker). The Salwar Suit material is pre-shrunk (no further shrinkage is expected) and machine wash safe with no color bleed. However, for maximum product life, separate and careful hand wash or dry cleaning is always better.
- IMPORTANT: Since Voile Cotton material is fairly translucent (semi-transparent), the Top piece (Kameez) must be stitched with inner lining cloth or "Astar".
